Forget all that you’ve read about setting and hitting goals. It’s not that complicated. I have been setting and exceeding my targets for years.
While Mokumax has been at the center of most of my goals it never completely satisfies my inner desire to create and share.
I love to write. Not just words. I really enjoy writing and recording music, specifically instrumental guitar music. It’s been a passion of mine for many years.
To be completely honest, writing blog posts for Mokumax is one of my least favorite writing exercises.
Stick with me. I need to give you some background on how much I get done before I can explain exactly how I do it.
I have also published a book on finance and written several other guides that you can find on Amazon.
And I did this all in my spare time.
The truth is I have a full-time job outside of Mokumax. I also have a young family. I have 4 kids! So, how do I find the time and more importantly how do I hit my goals every time?
It’s not really one step. It’s a process that I use.
My Favorite Trick For Hitting Big Goals
- Choose your goal – be specific and realistic. You have to define exactly what you want to do. I have 2 personal (outside of Mokumax) goals right now. Finish the fiction novel I’m writing and release my new instrumental rock guitar album.
- Pick a big event as your target. Right now is the perfect time for me to set my goals because I love using my beach vacation as my target. I have something to look forward to and it keeps me on track to work my tail off in the meantime.
It’s as simple as that.
Last year one of my goals was to release the Social Spy App by the time I went on vacation. SocialSpy allows you to use Twitter completely anonymously. I met my goal and while my family and I were sitting in our car on the ferry to Ocracoke Island in North Carolina I received the confirmation that my new app was accepted and posted to the App Store.
We cheered in celebration. I’ll never forget the moment. (If you have never published an app to the app store then take my word that there is indeed cause for celebration. You have to cross of the t’s and dot all of the i’s or your app ain’t getting published!)
It was an awesome experience and I had a very relaxing, inspiring and enjoyable vacation. It took a lot of hard work leading up to that point and the rest I enjoyed was well earned.
The bottom line is this – pick a solid date/day and look forward to it. It can be any date. Pick a holiday, when vacation starts, graduation, when the new school year starts, end of Summer, etc. Don’t pick “in 3 months” or “when ‘x’ happens”. Be specific so that you can visualize it.
Work hard in the meantime. Push forward remembering how sweet it will be when that day comes and you’ve accomplished your goal.
